Building Core Relationships on Facebook

Why are core relationships important? The days of impersonal marketing are history. Today
it's all about relationships. Don't make the mistake of thinking more is better and broadcast
your message to a large group of unrelated people. A targeted message to a small group of
influential people is much more effective.  A targeted message received by a targeted audience
will do the work for you. How? Easy...
 
Making the right friends... The old cliché about “who you know” is so very true in today's
atmosphere of social media madness. But guess what? There has never been a greater time
to be alive than right now. How many times in the past have we said “if only I had been around
when..." These are the good old days, friends; and we will not pass this way again. Seize this
day with everything in you, or you will end up regretting what might have been.
 
Core relationships can be divided into two very important groups:  Influencers and Evangelists.
When these relationships are properly nurtured, incredible things will happen. Influencers can
give you instant credibility and open great doors of opportunity.  Evangelists can give you third
party recommendation-- word of mouthadvertising. Place the majority of your effort and focus
on these two groups for all but guaranteed success.
 
Basically we're talking about leverage. Leverage is using a relatively small amount of effort to
achieve maximum benefit. Take a look at the relationships you already have established, How
can you get the maximum value from these contacts? Take a look...
 
Facebook is the prime social networking arena today. That's because it allows you to leverage
the extended networks of your friends without needing a formal introduction.  This is the power
of Facebook news feeds.
 
Do not make the mistake of so many others by adding people at random to get the numbers--
bad mistake. The quality of your initial friendswill determine the quality of your future network. 
You must be laser focused on your niche to obtain the huge dividends in the future. Remember,
everyone starts at zero, there is no shame in humble beginnings. We all have to go through it.
The important thing is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Persistence plus consistence
shored up with diligence is a sure recipe for success.
 
So, how do you get started finding friends? Start with your friends,of course... You will find it
quite easy and enjoyable, The tools you can use are Applications, Groups, Search, friends of
friends. Search on people and groups that are in your target range, but move slowly.  Do not rush
in, and above all-- Do Not Spam...
 
So how do we approach key influencers who have existing communities or a following who listen
to and respect them? These people are business leaders, bloggers, celebrities, experts in their
field... As I mentioned, you need to move gently. Do not be too direct or pushy. Join their
communities and become a productive member. Add value to every relationship. Approach
their friends first to establish yourself.Now you need to build rapport. There is no disingenuous
way of doing this. You must truly be interested in other people. Give sincere compliments, read
their blogs, comment on their status updates. Try matching your pace and speech to theirs,
use the same mode of communication.
 
As in all successful relationships, common ground is key. Common friends, common interests,
look at their profile to find genuine common ground. Be aware that influential people are aware
that others are after their influence for their own personal gain. You must be able to bring
value to the table. You must be a giver. Takers will not succeed here long term.
 
Let's have a look at Evangelists. Evangelists are passionate. They love your product or service.
They are your biggest fans and your most loyal customers. They provide valuable social proof
through their testimonials; they will tell your friends about their activities and interactions with you.
Let your evangelists do the shouting-- you keep it on the down-low.
 
Cultivate these relationships like any other-- bring value to the table, listen, and show genuine
appreciation. They will become your repeat customers. Treat them like the gold they are because
valuable assets should be treasured.
 
To sum it all up, your core relationships are vital for quick success with social networking. Focus
your energy on those who have the potential for the greatest returns. Use the 80/20 rule. And
remember, quality before quantity-- always.
